Giants reserves are fantastic says coach

“I’m glad Tommy Griffiths got the two tries, because he had another solid game, and I also thought Tom Burton and Chris Donlan went well.

“While Tom Hemingway has been on loan at Halifax, Chris has done a great job and can be very pleased with his efforts.”

Just how strong Hull KR’s challenge would be was evident within two minutes when James Hagan crossed for a try, converted by Sam Latus.

Huddersfield hit back 10 minutes later when second-rower Nathan Armitage forced his way over and Josh Griffin added the goals.

But Rovers wasted little time finding a response and almost immediately struck for a second time as Jack Latus dived over for brother Sam to land his second goal.

Once again the Giants found the ideal response when smart play gave Burton the opening to score in the right corner to make it 12-10 at the break.

Hull KR dominated the early second-half exchanges, but were unable to find a breakthrough, and after 10 minutes the Giants scored against the run of play to take a lead they were never to lose.

A smart Josh Griffin break cut the Rovers’ defence apart and the supporting Griffiths was on hand to collect the pass and race in under the posts for Griffin to goal.

Then six minutes later an identical move involving the same two players helped the Giants extended their lead to 22-12.

With 17 minutes remaining, Scott Taylor reduced the deficit with an unconverted try.

But with five minutes remaining, Josh Griffin settled the nerves with a penalty before older and more experienced brother Darrell crashed over between the posts to complete a good day’s work.
