Giants opposition guide: Leeds Rhinos
BEWARE the wounded Rhino!
That’s the message coming out of the Huddersfield camp as the Giants prepare for this weekend’s trip to Headingley.
By the current Super League champions’ own admission, this hasn’t been their greatest of seasons.
They are joint third with the Giants, with 10 wins from their opening 15 top-flight fixtures.
But their latest defeat came at Catalans Dragons last Saturday when they fell to a remarkable defeat.
Having been 28-12 behind with 11 minutes remaining, they fought back superbly to score three tries in eight minutes to take a 30-28 lead and looked to have sealed a dramatic triumph.
But with the last play of the game, Cyril Stacul squeezed in at the corner to break the Rhinos’ hearts and ensure their trip back from the South of France could not have been more miserable.
So how will the Rhinos respond to such a defeat, especially with the energy-sapping contest having been played in searing heat?
That could be the key to Sunday’s West Yorkshire derby.
AS the only Leeds captain to ever lead his side to three Championships and two World Club titles, Kevin Sinfield is the most successful captain in the history of the club.
In 2008, while celebrating his testimonial season, Sinfield was inspirational, scoring seven of his side’s points in the 11-4 win over Melbourne Storm that gave the Rhinos their second World Club Championship before scoring his 2000th point for the club in the Grand Final to give Leeds their first ever back-to-back Championships.
