Andy Raleigh column: Everyone is seeing treble!
Jun 13 2009 by Roy Wright, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Hi it’s Andy here.
Or is it Lee Mossop or Paul Jackson?
To be honest, I’m becoming as confused as anyone who’s who at the moment, and it’s not being helped by everyone around the club calling us by each other’s names to wind us up!
Even my Mum can’t tell us apart when we are on the field, which must mean most supporters struggle to tell the difference.
Lee’s arrival has introduced some youth and enthusiasm into the pack, he has been playing well and I was happy to see him rewarded with a try last week.
Unfortunately, Lee’s appearance has added to the confusion among the people at OPTA who record all the statistics at each game.
Even before Lee arrived, Jacko and I were mistaken for each other all the time by the stats men, often resulting in Jacko getting all my tackles, carries and tries, while I got all his errors and penalties!
Obviously, this has resulted in plenty of banter between us, but now our faith in the statisticians has been reduced further with Lee here, too.
In fact, last week I had one of his errors added to my stats, I wouldn’t have minded having his try added instead!
To be fair to the guys at OPTA, it is difficult. In fact during a video session the other day I had trouble telling the difference between us.
The question now is how do we distinguish ourselves from each other out on the field?
Dipping my head in purple paint has been suggested, as has a John McEnroe headband or illuminous boots. Maybe the answer is a badly grown beard like the one I have at the moment. Answers please on a postcard!
