Brett Hodgson column: We can’t dwell on the past

AFTER losing to Castleford last Friday, we’ve just had to put it down as ‘one of those days’.

Unfortunately, however, we seem to have had days like this on quite a few occasions this season, and that’s something we have to stop!

Our performance a week ago was a little flat, and we were then guilty of trying to overplay when they got the lead on us. It was something we didn’t have to do.

And, as everyone knows, it was my interception that helped strengthen Castleford’s grip on the contest.

This, I’m afraid, is something that can happen in the game, and the key when you make a mistake like this is the way you respond to it.

Clearly, when it happened, I wasn’t exactly over the moon about it, but I wasn’t going to tear my hair out as a result.

What you have to do on occasions like this is put it to the back of your mind and make sure it doesn’t affect your thought patterns for the rest of the game.

I suppose, earlier in my career, I would have found that pretty difficult, but over the years I’ve learned to handle situations like this.

I’ve learned how to dig that bit deeper in the face of such adversity and look to make amends.

That’s something I tried to do last Friday, and I’d like to think my response to that interception setback was as positive as it could have been and I went on to make a useful contribution to the cause. I certainly felt like I did.
