Brett Hodgson column: We can’t dwell on the past

But, as I’ve said before, it doesn’t matter how experienced you are, you never stop learning, and I have to make sure I learn from this and come back better next time out.

That obviously means at Salford tonight, when I know everyone is determined to put in a good show.

As a group, we were all bitterly disappointed over the way things went against Castleford, and tonight is the chance to get that well and truly out of our system.

Judging by the way we’ve trained this week, I’ve no doubt we’ll put in a good performance at The Willows.

The feeling is a little different to last week when we approached the Castleford game on the back of that heartbreaking defeat at Leeds.

That loss hit us incredibly hard. To put in so much effort only to be denied so late in the game took it out of us both mentally as well as physically, and I think there may have been a bit of a hangover to that as we prepared to do battle against Castleford five days later.

Hopefully, we’ll prove there’s no repeat tonight.

THE memories of our home defeat against Salford are still relatively fresh in our minds.

But it’s not really a case of feeling we owe them one for what they did to us at the Galpharm the other month.

We’re not a team that bears grudges and gaining revenge is not our chief source of motivation tonight.

This game is all about getting back on track and making sure we don’t start to slide down the Super League table.

We’ve worked hard to get where we are, and we don’t want to see that go to waste.
