Match Report: Salford 10 Giants 34

However, on Salford’s first real period of sustained pressure, Jordan Turner crashed over in the corner after 29 minutes and John Wilshere landed the touchline conversion to prove the game was far from over.
Robinson so nearly made it 24-6 at the break after showing great strength to wriggle out of a double tackle only to loose the ball in an attempt to touch the ball over the tryline.
But the Giants did finally grab their fourth try of the game to give them an 18-point advantage for a second time in the 62nd minute.
After good initial work from Robinson down the left, the ball was worked to the right for Brett Hodgson to create the gap and feed Stephen Wild, who in turn found Leroy Cudjoe to finish off in the corner.
Hodgson’s conversion bounced over off the crossbar and the win was almost assured.
There was a minor scare with 11 minutes remaining when a scrappy Salford attack somehow ended up with Wilshere going over for a try he failed to convert.
But that only sparked the Giants into more devastating action.
With five minute remaining Cudjoe crossed for an almost carbon copy of his opening score.
Then, three minutes later, acting centre Wild collected from a scrum 20m out and sliced through with ease to complete an excellent night’s work.
Tries in the final quarter from Alex Brown, Elliott Hodgson and Craig Williams gave the Giants a 48-28 Reserve Team Championship triumph over Salford in a highly entertaining curtain-raiser to the Super League clash.
But Huddersfield’s Academy side suffered a 26-22 home defeat to the City Reds.
The Giants were rocked by the early loss of Scott Farnsworth with a dislocated shoulder.
But they still came close to pulling off the win, with tries coming from Matty Garside (two), Darren Lamb and Jermaine Akidaire and three goals from Danny Ansell.
