Loan duo clear for Sunday Giants clash

FORWARDS Danny Sculthorpe and Michael Korkidas could face each other on Sunday - playing against their own clubs.

The Giants go into the Galpharm derby clash against Wakefield with the clubs having agreed that the on-loan pair are clear to play against their teammates.

While 29-year-old Sculthorpe is working hard to win a regular slot under coach Nathan Brown at the Galpharm, Wakefield’s 28-year-old Aussie front rower Korkidas is back on home soil after a three year absence from Belle Vue – via Salford, Castleford and, of course, Huddersfield.

“It has been a bit of a roller-coaster ride for me over the past few seasons, but I have to say that it will be a bit weird for myself and Danny on Sunday,” said Korkidas.

“But really it doesn’t matter too much about the fact that you know the guys so well, once you cross the white line then it is about facing your opponents and trying to play the best that you can.”

And Korkidas, who signed a three-year deal with the Giants after leaving The Jungle in the close season, feels that it should be a tough clash as both clubs try to cement their Super League play-off places – with just two points separating the sides in the table.

He said: “Obviously we want to end up in as good a position as possible, hopefully in the top six, and Huddersfield will be aiming as high if not higher – so it’s a pretty important game.”
