But Rule felt that in many ways the financial rewards were matched by other spin-offs – from increased interest from fans to improving the chances of capturing top players in the transfer market.

“Getting to Wembley is a fantastic reward for the players and for the loyal fans who have followed their club through thick and thin, and is also an excellent way of attracting new fans to the club,” said Rule.

“In terms of helping to market season-ticket packages there’s really nothing to match it.

“Furthermore, a Challenge Cup final appearance helps in your efforts to attract top overseas players.

“Not everyone in Australia is familiar with Super League, but they all know about the Challenge Cup, and if they’ve seen you play in the Cup final it definitely helps to make you a more attractive proposition.

“And, finally, there’s the overall feelgood factor there is throughout the club when you play at Wembley. You can’t put a price on that.”
