We can be big play-off force says Giants coach Brown

DELIGHTED Giants coach Nathan Brown believes his side are ready to mount a serious play-off challenge after securing their highest Super League finish on the back of a terrific 48-16 home win over Wigan.

Huddersfield’s record 18th Super League win of the season helped secure a third-place finish for Brown’s men and a trip to St Helens for their opening play-off clash on Saturday (6.00).

It’s only the second time the Giants have reached the play-offs after they finished sixth in 2007, only to lose at Hull in their opening game.

But on the back of a record Super League win over the Warriors, Brown is confident they can celebrate play-off success for the first time.

“It’s always good to go into the play-offs on the back of a good win, and that’s exactly what we’ve done,” said Brown, whose Giants travel to face a Saints side beaten 24-12 at home to Catalans Dragons on Friday night.

“That performance should put us in good stead for Saturday, which we expect will be a very tough game. It was obviously going to be a trip to St Helens, which we’ve got, or to Leeds, and both are very good sides, although very different in the way they play.

“But the good thing about going to St Helens is that the game’s on the Saturday and not the Friday, so we’ve got an extra day to prepare and make sure the players can recover as well as they possibly can.
