Giants sensation Lawrence on St Helens clash

TEENAGE sensation Michael Lawrence is confident the Giants are in perfect shape for tonight’s big play-off showdown with St Helens at Knowsley Road (6.00).

The 19-year-old threequarter put in another impressive display at centre as the Giants booked their place in Super League’s top three with a comprehensive 48-16 win over Wigan at the Galpharm in the final round of regular matches last weekend.

But whatever the achievements over the normal season, Lawrence and his colleagues are firmly focused of the task ahead of them in the play-offs.

“We go into the Saints game in confident mood on the back of what was a good display against Wigan,” said Lawrence.

“Everybody is just looking forward to the Saints game, especially after our two recent matches against them.

“We got a great result when we beat them in the Challenge Cup semi-finals, and the league match the week before Wembley saw us take virtually a reserve side to Knowsley Road, where we were only beaten by two points.

“We came away feeling we could have won and that gives us every reason to be confident that we can do well over there tonight.”

Having just missed the cut for the final 17 to play at Wembley, Lawrence, having regained his place in the side for the last two Super League games at Celtic Crusaders and against Wigan, is determined he will play as big a part as possible in the play-off schedule.
