Andy Raleigh column: Recovery is the key

HI, it’s Andy here.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed last week’s physical battle against Warrington Wolves, even though the result went against us.

The fact we were beaten was disappointing, but we still feel in excellent spirits and in good shape given the game’s intensity.

In fact, I think we all feel fresh and ready for the big challenge at Wakefield tonight.

And for that, our coaching staff deserve a great deal of credit.

When you’ve just played a very physical game and have to back up just six days later, it’s important to plan the week accordingly for the welfare of the players. You have to make sure the players are ‘up’ again for the next game.

And with the way we all feel right now, we believe the coaches have got it spot-on.

This week, that process began on the Monday with the rehab work.

That involves swimming, spending time in the Jacuzzi and taking dips into the icy cold plunge pool. That might be a shock to the system, but is the best way of flushing out the lactic acid in your body that causes those aches and pains.

We then had our review of the previous day’s game in the afternoon.

The following day, it’s weights work, massage and more rehab – if required – before we finally stepped back out on the field on Wednesday. We also took in the first of two preview videos about Wakefield which the coaches had put together.
