Andy Raleigh column: Recovery is the key

Because of the short turnaround we had a day off on Thursday. You can’t underestimate the value of rest when the season gets under way.

Then on Friday we had another preview video session before returning to the field for a lengthy session for the final run-through. If it’s a Sunday game, we do that on Saturday morning.

Yes, it’s not the most demanding of weeks we’ll ever have, but right now it’s probably what we needed, and we hope it pays off tonight.

WHATEVER you do, don’t ask Jamahl Lolesi to do any DIY for you!

Both Jammer and myself have recently moved to new homes and, as is often the case, you like to put your own mark on the place.

Now, I don’t confess to be the greatest DIYer in the world, but compared to the hopeless Jammer I’m THE best!

I think we’ve already lost count of the number of Jammer disasters, because there have been that many.

Just this week, for instance, our clumsy colleague has spilt paint all over him in the act of casually leaning up against a wall, and he then celebrated the fact by shaking hands with a rusty old nail. The rusty nail won, of course, forcing Jammer to have a panic attack and demand an immediate tetanus jab.

We all await with interest next week’s thrilling instalment of how not to do DIY!

But in the meantime, my advice to Jammer is simple – don’t give up the day job!

And the advice to everyone else is this – don’t go anywhere near his joint, because the place just might collapse around you!
