Huddersfield Giants' Luke Robinson relishing battle with the Leeds Rhinos

LUKE ROBINSON is hoping to prove immediately why staying at the Giants was a smart move to make.

The 25-year-old scrum half signed a two-year extension on Wednesday, which will keep him at the Galpharm until the end of the 2012 season.

By that time Robinson will have been at the Giants for five seasons.

And the former Wigan and Salford star is confident that by then he will have lifted some silverware in the famous claret and gold colours.

But, first, he is determined to celebrate the deal by inspiring the Giants to victory over Super League champions Leeds Rhinos at the Galpharm on Sunday and show the rest of the competition his side means business.

“We’re playing some good rugby and there is a belief amongst the squad that we can win something,” said Robinson.

“That’s the main reason why I had no hesitation signing a new deal when the offer to me was made.

“I didn’t need to consider going anywhere else, because the club is moving forward in leaps and bounds every year, which can be seen by the progress made on the field.

“We have a great coaching set-up and a good set of lads. Before I retire, I would like to put something on my shelf at home and Huddersfield is the team I want to do that with.

“To do that we have to start beating the top teams on a far more regular basis, and beating Leeds on Sunday would be a great place to start.

“We all know it’s going to be tough, because Leeds are a quality side and can up the levels in the big games like we saw against Melbourne Storm.

“But it’s pleasing to see that the perceptions of us as a team have changed.

“We know we will have to play consistently well over the course of the 80 minutes but we certainly have confidence in our abilities.

“This is a great opportunity for me to show straight away why I jumped at the chance to sign this new deal.”
