Luke Robinson happy to do dreaded Huddersfield Giants naked run!

LUKE ROBINSON would be happy doing the traditional end-of-season naked run for the next 10 years if it meant the Giants could win some silverware.

The 25-year-old scrum-half-turned-hooker thought he’d avoided doing the dreaded forfeit after scoring his first try of the season in the opening half of Huddersfield’s excellent 40-12 Challenge Cup fourth-round home triumph over Hull KR.

But his delight immediately turned to disappointment when he was quickly informed by his gleeful teammates that Challenge Cup tries don’t get you out of the traditional run.

That may have come as a blow to the former Wigan and Salford half-back, but the fact he’s enjoying himself so much at the Giants meant it took him very little time to get over what he regarded as a very minor setback.

“I think if you saw my reaction you could tell how much it meant to me to score that try,” reflected Robinson, who signed a new two-year contract extension in March.

“I put the ball down, immediately jumped up and started shouting and screaming. ‘Yes, that’s me out of the nude run!’ I announced.

“But one of the lads came straight up to me and whispered in my ear that the golden rule is that Challenge Cup games don’t count. Only scoring tries in Super League get you out of it, and so far I haven’t scored in the League this season.

“That reminder obviously meant my excitement had dwindled a bit, but the most important thing about scoring was that it helped us win the game and make it to through to the next round.

“Scoring tries is great but, if I had the choice, I’d be happy doing 10 nude runs if it meant we could win some trophies.

“And that’s something I think we’re now in a position to do.

“These are exciting times and I believe we’ve never been in a better position to challenge for the trophies.”

Robinson has played a pivotal role in the Giants’ positive start to the campaign.

Most of those have been at hooker, especially since the arrival of new scrum half Danny Brough.

But Robinson couldn’t be happier.
