EX-HUDDERSFIELD Giants centre Paul Whatuira could be in line for a sensational return to the Australian NRL - just weeks after leaving the Galpharm.

Whatuira, a premiership winner Down Under with Penrith and the Wests Tigers, was allowed to return home for family reasons as he continues to recover from a hamstring injury which kept him out of Super League action indefinitely.

But Whatuira's manager, Sam Ayoub, has confirmed he was in talks with two clubs, including one that was ready to hand him a lifeline for the remainder of this year.

"I have spoken to a couple of clubs who are keen to talk, which we will be doing over the next week or two," Ayoub said.

During his stint with the Giants, which started in 2008 and came to an end last month, Whatuira, 28, spent 13 days in a secure mental unit in Bradford after an unprovoked assault on two men.

He made 55 appearances and scored 22 tries while at Huddersfield.
