Huddersfield Giants in the market for Crusader Weller Hauraki?

Weller Hauraki

FORMER Parramatta Eels forward Weller Hauraki is being linked with a possible move to the Giants.

The 25-year-old New Zealander looks set to be moved on by fledgling Super League outfit Crusaders as they seek to cut costs with Leeds Rhinos and the Giants being toted as the clubs likely to move to sign the back row forward.

Hauraki, who has won international honours representing New Zealand Maoris, scored 11 tries in 27 appearances for the Welsh outfit in his first season in Super League this summer is among a group of players likely to be off-loaded by the Wrexham-based club.

Directors of Wrexham Village, the parent company of Wrexham FC who bought the Celtic Crusaders last year, are expected to conclude a deal with administrators by the end of the month that would see them relaunch the club debt-free.

“It’s early days, but in simple terms we will be looking to sell the club’s assets so that it can continue,” joint administrator Simon Weir said.

“I have already had approaches from two sets of interested parties. We are looking to complete the sale by the end of November.”
