Huddersfield Giants training as usual, with Luke O’Donnell taking the lead

NATHAN BROWN is delighted the Giants have been able to fire on all cylinders in pre-season training – despite the cold snap.
And the Galpharm chief believes new arrival Luke O’Donnell (left) is already proving a red-hot addition to his squad as the Giants gear up for Super League XVI next February.
Although the club’s outside pitches have been frozen solid, Huddersfield have been able to make full use of the Sports Barn on Leeds Road.
Brown’s senior squad were able to train on the artificial indoor surface again yesterday, and the Australian admits having such an excellent facility on the doorstep is proving a godsend.
“It can be a real logistical nightmare at a time like this,” said Brown. “But we know how lucky we are having such an excellent facility like the Sports Barn at our disposal.
“Obviously, there’s nothing to beat getting the work done outside on a full-size pitch, but this is the next best thing and we really appreciate having it available to us.
“It means we’ve still been able to put in some quality work, which at this stage of the season is absolutely vital.”
And Brown couldn’t be happier with the way that the former Australia Test back-rower O’Donnell has settled into his new environment.
“Luke’s only been here a week, but he’s already showing what an excellent professional he is,” added Brown.
“Like most players, he’s fitted in with no problems at all and some of our youngers players are already looking up to him, which is what you expect when you bring in such a high-quality player.
“Luke’s always been known for being a good trainer and looking after his body, and it’s habits like that you hope will rub off on the players around him.
“I’m sure that’s what will happen here, which can only be good for the club.”
