BRETT HODGSON has heaped lavish praise on the man who has taken his full-back berth at the Giants.
Scott Grix was once again one of Huddersfield’s top performers in Friday’s 29-10 triumph over Warrington at the Galpharm which took the Giants back to the top for a couple of days.
It was the second time new Warrington No1 Hodgson has faced Grix since he left for the Halliwell Jones Stadium at the end of last season, with the Giants winning 28-16 in Cardiff on the opening day of the Super League XVI season.
Hodgson spent a great deal of time preparing Grix for the full-back role after agreeing to join the Wolves for 2011 midway through last season.
And the Australian former Super League Man of Steel has revealed he isn’t in the least bit surprised Grix – pictured above celebrating his opening try in Friday’s game with Luke Robinson – has been such a big Huddersfield hit.
“He’s playing really well at full-back, which I always knew he would,” said Hodgson.
“He stood out against us the other night, and I’ve been impressed every time I’ve seen him on Sky this season.
“Grixy’s always had the potential to be really successful in the role and I do genuinely regard him as one of the best full-backs in the competition.
“I’ve heard him say a number of times that he owes me a lot for the help I gave him last season when it became clear he’d be taking over from me.
“But I didn’t see it that way. The key to his success was the hard work he put in himself, it’s had little to do with me.
“Scott Grix deserves all the credit for the way he’s playing, no-one else.
“I’m delighted for him.”
