GIANTS rising star Jermaine McGillvary has his eyes on the future.
Having signed a contract extension that keeps him with his hometown club until 2016, the 23-year-old has now set his sights on the immediate target of the Giants push for success in the Super League XVI play-offs.
Three games remain starting with tomorrow’s trip to Salford City Reds (8.00) before home outings against Harlequins and Leeds, and McGillvary wants a winning run to close the regular season.
“The past couple of weeks have been a little disappointing in terms of the results that we have come up with,” said McGillvary.
“We have not been winning games as we were doing earlier in the season and we have been disappointed at times with our performances.
“ We really need to get some good form together and get some wins to take into the play-offs.
“We did okay in our performance at St Helens, but as we head into the business end of the season we do need some victories to go with better displays.”
The 19-6 defeat by Saints at Widnes’ Stobart Stadium saw the Giants compete well, but the England Knights player feels that is not enough.
“Obviously we go into every game to win it, but over a season you are going to get hit now and again,” he said.
“But we probably have had a few more defeats than we would have liked over the past nine or 10 weeks and we need to get back on track.
“Hopefully we can do that against Salford.”
