Eorl Crabtree apologises to fans for Huddersfield Giants’ horror show

BIG Eorl Crabtree has apologised to the fans for the Giants’ play-off performance at Warrington and has pledged to make amends in Friday’s home elimination clash against Leeds Rhinos.

Huddersfield’s dreams of pulling off a shock win at the home of the Super League minor champions and move to within one game of a first Old Trafford Grand Final appearance were shattered on Friday night as they were thrashed 47-0 by ex-Giants chief Tony Smith’s men.

Although Huddersfield went into the contest as massive underdogs, having won just two of their last eight games, it was the manner of the defeat that hit the Giants the hardest.

And Crabtree knows it's now up to the players to prove this was a one-off and, at the same time, re-pay the claret and gold faithful with a five-star showing in the final game at the Galpharm this season.

“What happened the other night just wasn't acceptable,” admitted the 28-year-old England prop.

“We went there fully intending to give ourselves a really good shot, but it simply didn’t happen, and that was incredibly tough to take.

“We were all bitterly disappointed, not just with the way we played, but the way in which we let the fans down.

“Their support this season has been absolutely fantastic, and it was the same again at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, so I’d just like to offer my personal apology to all those who made the trip and then had to see a performance like that. And I'm sure every other member of the squad would offer the same sentiment, too.

“But at least we can still do something about it.
