HUDDERSFIELD Giants will be more mobile in 2012.

That’s head coach Nathan Brown’s aim for his pack ahead of the start of the Super League XVII campaign.

The Galpharm chief admits that’s been largely forced on his squad, with just four recognised props in the Giants Class of 2012 in the shape of experienced duo Eorl Crabtree and Keith Mason and up-and-coming top-flight pair Tony Tonks and Adam Walker.

As a result, several established back-row forwards may move up to prop during the heat of next season’s Super League battles, with former Test campaigners David Fa’alogo and Luke O’Donnell the prime candidates.

Brown doesn’t intend to use new signing Jason Chan this way – with the Giants chief keen to use his speed out wide – but he’s not prepared to rule anything out at this stage.

“We’re clearly going to need players capable of doing both roles (prop and back-row) next season,” said Brown.

“Because of that, our pack could be a lot more agile and mobile, and that could be no bad thing.
