THE GIANTS juniors were taught a harsh lesson by Jamie Foster as the first team winger bagged himself 40 points in a dominant 68-0 St Helens victory.

Huddersfield were up against a very good Saints team in the Valvoline Cup clash with the visitors including first-teamers Shaun Maggenis, Nathan Ashe and Foster, who were all in sublime form.

There were also some spirited performances from the Giants’ Joel Farrell, Josh Johnson, Matty Sarsfield and Tony Tonks, with the former Featherstone front rower now hoping to push for the first team.

St Helens opened the scoring through an Ashe touch down

On the back of a 40-20 from Ashe, Dom Speakman and Corey Lee combined to put in Adam Swift.

The home side then pressurised the Saints line for a short period, but the visitors’ defensive wall was never going to be broken as Huddersfield lacked that cutting edge.

Josh Jones then got a score as he collected Lee’s offload close to the line. Foster got his first of the day as he combined with Danny Jones and Swift in a flowing move down the left.

The second half was when St Helens really went up a gear, as Ashe threw a dummy to break downfield and set up Maggenis for a try.

Maggenis then put Foster through a gap on halfway as the winger danced his way around the Giants defenders and raced away to go in under the sticks.

Foster completed his hat trick on the back of Ashe, Lee, Swift and Percival’s combination down the left.

Danny Jones’s grubber through then got Foster his fourth as he pounced first on to the ball ahead of the sluggish home defence

The away outfit’s momentum just could not be stopped as the Giants did not see the ball for the majority of the second half.
