ANNUAL meetings can be dull affairs.
Thankfully, this was not the case with ours, particularly with fans favourite Danny Brough on hand to collect his Wagstaff Trophy award.
Chairman Dave Calverley presented his report, stating how the Association had gone from strength to strength.
The Tuesday night meetings had been phenomenally successful, thanks to Mick Beevers obtaining guests of the highest calibre.
Unfortunately the experiment of having a second, visit-type session had not been particularly well supported and the venture had, for the time being, been shelved.
Both the treasurer’s (James Atherton) and membership secretary’s (Phil Nelson) reports were approved by the large assembled throng.
The election of officers was, as is the norm for most organisations, an uneventful affair, with the outgoing committee being duly re-elected in turn.
In addition, Chris and Helen Simpson were welcomed as new general committee members.
In closing the formal part of the meeting, our thoughts turned to Roy Shaw.
Roy has been associated with the club for many years and was well known as a committee member with the original Supporters Club. We wish Roy a speedy recovery from his on-going illness.
Our guest for the evening was Danny Brough.
Danny has been voted the player whom HGSA would least like to leave the Giants.
He narrowly beat Eorl Crabtree for this accolade and was duly presented with the Wagstaff Trophy by Chairman Dave Calverley.
Danny thanked everyone for their support.
A question and answer session followed with Danny being forthright and honest with his views on recent events at the club!
All in all a good evening was had by everyone.
In other news, November 6 is our next meeting, which is the much-anticipated one with RL referees’ chief Stuart Cummings.
And on Friday, December 7 it’s our Reindeer Race Night. Tickets are now on sale from any committee member, behind the bar at Turnbridge, and will shortly be available online.
