THE Wagstaff Trophy is the Supporters Association’s Annual Award voted for by its members.
Because there are many ‘Player of the Season’ awards, we decided this should be presented for something different.
We came up with ‘The player who you would least like to leave the club’. The definition is purposely loose, leaving members to apply their own criteria.
Members were asked to vote for three players, with their first choice being awarded three points, second two and third one.
Last year it was a two-horse race between Luke Robinson and Scott Grix, with Scott narrowly winning.
This year was also between two players.
Eorl Crabtree came second with 40 points, but the winner was Danny Brough with 46 points.
Turning to other matters, starting with the RL Heritage Project.
Fans are starting to volunteer their services for this great project.
At the moment it is only a trickle, but we are confident of greater support as our activities receive a higher profile.
One way which you could help is to scan items which are being donated.
These will be put onto the forthcoming website.
Scanning can be carried out in the comfort of your own home at times which suit you.
Please consider this request and help us put on the magnificent display our great club and town deserve.
Meanwhile, big apologies for those who attended this week’s meeting expecting to see Eorl Crabtree alongside Luke Robinson in the hot seat.
Unfortunately, Eorl had been called up to an England meeting at short notice, hence his absence. Our loss is England’s gain.
We hope to have Eorl with us in the very near future.
Don’t forget that our next meeting on October 2 (which is our AGM) we’re looking for new blood with fresh ideas to join our hard-working committee.
Nominations can be done online or via a form available from any committee member.
On November 6, RFL Controller of Referees Stuart Cummings is our guest speaker.
Then in December, a Reindeer Race Night is being planned.
