Shaun Lunt knows Huddersfield Giants are nowhere near their Super League XVIII peak
EXCITED Shaun Lunt can’t wait for the Giants to reach their Super League XVIII peak!
Huddersfield head into Sunday’s West Yorkshire derby home clash against Bradford Bulls (3.00) looking to win their opening five Super League fixtures for the very first time.
Wins over Wigan, St Helens, Wakefield and London Broncos have helped the Giants open up a one-point lead at the top of the table.
But Lunt knows there’s still a lot more to come from his team – which he hopes Huddersfield will show against the Bulls this weekend.
“Although no-one’s getting carried away, we do feel pretty excited about the way things are going,” said Lunt.
“A lot of people are expecting us to fail, because of the way we’ve fallen off in the past few seasons.
“But it feels different this year.
“For a start, we’re not worried about what anyone thinks outside the club any more. As soon as you start worrying, that’s when you lose your focus and things can fall apart, which has been the case in the past, but won’t be in the future.
“And we obviously all know there’s still so much to come from this team. Everyone can see that.
“We’ve not been playing well this season, as the number of mistakes we’ve been coming up with is proof of.
“But we’ve still been winning and beating some tops teams along the way, and that’s the sign of a great team.
“Although we were pleased to win at Wakefield – which is never easy – we’re looking for a massive improvement against the Bulls this weekend, which we know we can deliver.
“We know we’re nowhere near our peak at the moment, but we’re determined to take steps to make sure we start working towards that.”
