We need our best to beat the Huddersfield Giants says Hull FC captain Andy Lynch

HULL FC captain Andy Lynch has warned his side only their best performance of the season will be good enough to topple the Giants in Sunday’s play-offs clash.

A Black and Whites team buoyed by back-to-back wins over Bradford and Castleford in the past fortnight are relishing the chance to lock horns with Huddersfield at the KC Stadium for an eagerly-anticipated sudden-death fixture.

The Giants are one of only two teams to return from a trip to east Yorkshire with a win this season – a 42-16 fourth-round Challenge Cup triumph on April 15 – and are buoyed by the 48-24 home win over reigning champions Leeds Rhinos five days ago.

And while Lynch admits his own side are full of confidence given their recent form, the in-form prop knows Hull will have to up their game against a Huddersfield side getting back to their best.

“Their result against Leeds came on the back of a top-quality display and it was a real statement of intent before the play-offs from them,” said Lynch (right), who collected the club’s Player of the Year Award at the ceremony on Sunday.

“Leeds weren’t at their best, but they are still a top side with some dangerous players and the Giants did a real job on them.

“The play-offs are all about form and momentum and Huddersfield have built some this week.

“We know they are a good side and we are expecting them to put in an even better performance on Sunday.

“They are a good team from one to 17 and I don’t really think you can pick out anybody in particular.

“Their half-backs are very influential, as you would expect from any side, but they have a good pack and they are very physical.

“We can take some confidence knowing that we turned them over the last time played them.

“But this is play-off rugby and it’s a different sort of pressure. We are in decent form ourselves but we know it will take our best performance to get the win on Sunday.”
