Huddersfield Giants captain Kevin Brown's column: Business as usual this weekend

QUITE often when you’ve suffered a bitterly disappointing defeat, all you want to do is put it behind you as quickly as possible and get back out on the field at the earliest opportunity.

Unfortunately, because our home game against Crusaders isn’t until Sunday, it’s meant we’ve had eight days to dwell on the events at Wigan last Saturday.

That’s given us more than enough time to stew on what went on at the DW Stadium, and we’ve been on the receiving end of some pretty uncomfortable home truths as a result.

But when you’re a good team you always have the ability to find the necessary response, and because we’re a good team we know that’s exactly what will happen.

And we also know that if we do learn all the lessons from that night at my former club, then we’ll turn from a good team into a great team. That’s something that’s well within our grasp.

On top of that, we also know how important it is to find a positive response against Crusaders this weekend and put some pride back into our performance.

It’s something I think we’re all determined to do, and we certainly won’t be looking for excuses ahead of the contest.

A lot has been said this week about how much we’re going to have to re-shuffle the side to cope with the continued loss through injury of Danny Brough and the new absences of hookers Shaun Lunt and David Faiumu.

All three are key players and are major men to replace.

But we’re 100% confident we can.

Even though I’ll have my third half-back partner in a month this weekend, my particular role won’t change in the least.

It’ll still be business as usual, and with the plans Browny has up his sleeve, we don’t see this as being an issue at all.

And judging with the way things went at Wigan last weekend, I don’t think it would have mattered who’d played at half-back that day, because we were all so badly beaten in every aspect of the game.
