Huddersfield Giants captain Kevin Brown's column: Time to focus

APPARENTLY, there’s a rugby league game taking place in London this weekend!

And, by all accounts, it will feature my former club Wigan and Leeds Rhinos at Wembley Stadium in the Carnegie Challenge Cup final.

Okay, I’m not being completely honest here.

I do obviously know all about it, and as a former Wigan player and good mate of a lot of the boys who are still there, I’d love to see them lift the trophy.

But even though I’ll be taking a keen interest in the events taking place in the capital this weekend, it won’t be my major rugby league focus of attention.

And that’s something that applies to everyone at the Giants this weekend.

I’m sure every member of the squad will be sitting down to watch the final, but we’ve all made a concerted effort to ensure we focus primarily on what’s going to be happening at the Galpharm Stadium the following Sunday.

That’s the day we host Harlequins in what we’re already regarding as one of our most important games of the season.

Because of this weekend’s Cup final, we’ve had a fair bit of time to dwell on the events of the past couple of weeks and the very disappointing defeats at St Helens and Salford, two games we were confident of winning.

That’s not been pleasant at all, I can tell you!

But it has given us a fair bit of time to think long and hard about exactly what went wrong and try and come up with the right answers to make sure everything falls into place against Quins.

We also had a couple of days off at the start of the week to freshen ourselves up, both mentally and physically, and it does appear to have done the trick.
