Huddersfield Giants captain Kevin Brown column: Excitement levels have risen at Huddersfield Giants ahead of Super League XVII

WELL, another year, another Super League season, and we can all sense the levels of excitement going up another notch.

I’d obviously love to say pre-season has never gone better and everyone is 100% ready for our trip to Wigan on Sunday.

But clearly that’s not the case, with injuries having taken their toll – just as they have done for many of our rivals, for that matter.

I don’t think any club has really managed to escape this pre-season’s injury curse, so there’s certainly no point us dwelling on that fact here at the Giants.

And we have no intention of doing so.

Yes, it’s going to be tough having to watch Sunday’s game from the stand – my ankle injury means I’ll probably miss our opening two fixtures – but I’m also incredibly excited about seeing the lads put all their hard pre-season work into practice.

All the lads who are going to be playing at Wigan are buzzing, and it’s great to see how much excitement and expectation there is going into the game.

I think we’re all really looking forward to seeing how some of the younger boys are doing, particularly Adam Walker and Bobby Fairbank (pictured above).

They may be inexperienced at Super League level, but they’ve both been around the club for a while now, been through our systems and look comfortable in the squad.

On top of that, they’ve trained really well throughout pre-season and were arguably our two best players in the trials, so regardless of the injuries they’ve earned their spots on merit.
