EVERY week we seem to be talking about how we’re demonstrating qualities that could make us a champion team.
We’ve spoken about the strength of the squad and the way we can adapt to the opposition we’re facing, as well as the fact we’re starting to look more of an attacking threat and have even more steel in defence.
All those qualities were on show during our Challenge Cup win at Hull FC last weekend.
But we also showed another important development to our game that deserves to be recognised.
In years gone by, if we’d fallen 14-0 behind early on against a quality side like Hull away from home, we could have forgotten all about coming back to win the game.
It would have been a case of panicking like mad, losing our heads and going right away from the game plan. We’d have probably waved the white flag if we’d been able to get our hands on one.
But not the Giants of 2012.
We always knew Hull would come out strong against us, and it would be a case of weathering the storm before we cut loose.
That’s exactly the way it went.
It had been a real arm-wrestle against the same opponents just six days before, so we knew what would be coming our way and we were ready to respond accordingly.
The Super League game on Easter Monday had obviously been at the Galpharm, so we also knew Hull would be desperate to put on a show back at the KC Stadium and keep their unbeaten home record this season intact. Revenge would also have been on their minds.
But despite Hull having one of the best defensive records in the competition, we started to see some glimpses of just how lethal our attack can be during that fantastic second-half display.
Being part of an attacking performance like that was a fantastic experience, and I’d like to think we could do something similar at Bradford Bulls on Sunday.
Unfortunately, however, I think the conditions which are being forecast could count against us big time.
By all accounts, it’s going to be a foul day at Odsal. How many times have we heard that being said!
So the key this weekend is again adapting our game accordingly.
But, as I’ve already said, we’ve already shown this season we possess the qualities required to do just that, and we’re ready to do that again on Sunday!
