I HAVE to admit last Friday’s home defeat to Wigan Warriors has hit us hard.
We were pretty confident going into the contest and knew this was a fantastic opportunity to re-establish our two-point lead at the top of the Super League XVII table.
But, as everyone saw for themselves, we failed to delivered when it really counted.
As a result, I don’t think any of us were looking forward to the our match review at the beginning of the week.
That’s when Browny sits us all down in front of the TV and dissects our performance, showing us exactly where we went wrong and why.
To be honest, he had a field day in the wake of the Wigan game!
Yet after the review session, the mood was relatively upbeat.
I suppose that may come as a surprise to many of you, because we were clearly second best to the Warriors for a fair chunk of our top-of-the-table clash.
But the review made it clear exactly where we went wrong and that there are things we’re more than capable of fixing up ASAP.
Had we played well and lost, then that would have been a real cause for concern.
But it was so painfully obviously that it was down to our own fault that we made it such a convincing win for the Warriors in the end.
And we know that as soon as we put things right, we’ll be a major Super League force once again.
One area that let us down so badly the other night was our left-side defence, which until this game was the best in the competition.
There were reasons why this wasn’t so great against Wigan – we’ll obviously be keeping those just to ourselves! – and I know for a fact it won’t happen again.
I know that’s a bold statement to make, but that’s how confident I am there will be no repeat – starting this Sunday against Salford.
We’ve obviously had nine days to prepare for this Magic Weekend fixture and we can’t wait to put everything right.
We also can’t wait to play at the Eithad Stadium.
Personally, I’ve never been to the stadium before, but I do know that if it’s the home of new Premier League champions Manchester City, it won’t be a dump!
But I’m still looking forward to finding out for myself.
