Should Brough move to the Galpharm, he could form a half-back partnership with Luke Robinson, and Kevin Brown could revert to centre, where he was originally earmarked to play in the event of Carney’s arrival.
In the short term, however, Robinson will play alongside a new half-back partner when Tom Hemingway makes his first senior appearance of the season at stand-off against the Hornets this weekend.
Hemingway missed the start of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery and then suffering a broken hand in training.
But he has impressed in the Reserves over the past three weeks and is now ready to step up.
The 21-year-old gets the chance because Brown is rested to give him time to recover from a series of knocks, although not the bang to the head he received off teammate Paul Whatuira in Sunday’s victory over Celtic Crusaders.
Also named in Sunday’s squad are talented youngsters Josh Griffin and Keal Carlile, who will make their senior bows, and Larne Patrick.
The Giants’ home Super League clash against Hull KR, which was originally scheduled for Sunday, June 7, will now be played on Friday, June 5 and screened live on Sky TV.
