Giants ace Moore thanks Nathan Brown ahead of England cap

WHEN Scott Moore makes his England debut in France tomorrow, the in-form Giants hooker knows he has Nathan Brown to thank.

The 21-year-old will line up for his country, alongside Huddersfield teammate Eorl Crabtree, in the Gillette Fusion Test in Paris (8.00).

Moore, who is on a season-long loan from St Helens, is one of three uncapped players in England coach Tony Smith’s 19-man squad (Leeds winger Ryan Hall and Wigan half-back Sam Tomkins are the others).

It is believed the highly-rated No9 is the first on-loan player ever to represent his country, and Moore admits Galpharm chief Brown – a former top Australian NRL hooker himself – deserves a lot of credit for making his call-up possible.

"Working under Nathan has been absolutely fantastic for me," revealed Moore.

"He set me a challenge to be consistent this year, because last season I was a bit erratic. My form was very up and down.

"Nathan played over 10 years in the NRL at hooker, so he knows everything about the role.

"So I know how fortunate I am to be playing in the same position as him, because he has given me a lot of subtleties which I didn’t have in my game before.

"Without him and the rest of the boys at Huddersfield I know I wouldn’t be in the 19.

"I’m loving it here at the Giants and the call-up is just another big boost in what has been a fantastic year so far."

Moore will be sharing the hooker role this weekend with Saints’ James Roby, although who will start and who will come off the substitutes’ bench has yet to be confirmed.

Giants prop Crabtree’s role also remains under wraps, although it’s likely he will be used as an impact player from the bench – something he has been doing with great success with Huddersfield.

And he, too, can’t speak highly enough of the work Brown has been doing to bring the best out of him.
