Nathan Brown column: Giants have defied everyone who thought we’d fall

Nathan Brown answers the questions put by Examiner Rugby League reporter PETE BARROW
YOU GO to Harlequins on Saturday with the chance to put daylight between yourselves and one of the other Super League contenders, but they are a tough prospect?
They have got a game in hand on us, so it is a big game.
They have been pretty consistent this year, which is similar to Wakefield, Hull KR and ourselves.
Like the three clubs I have mentioned they were probably expected to fall away, but all of the clubs have defied everyone by winning a good share of our games.
Wakefield put up a tough fight at the Galpharm last week, but the way the Giants held firm for a 30-14 win must have pleased you?
We didn’t do too bad.
We had a change in our attack to try and utilise Liam Fulton a bit more. The Wakefield game was probably the first time we have used Liam in that role so we had to adjust a bit.
But I thought Wakefield played really well, so we had to dig deep and do some work for our win.
We still have room for improvement and if we keep challenging ourselves, then hopefully we can keep on winning our share of games.
David Faiumu grabbed two tries against Wakefield, but he has been played ‘economically’, was that to help him make an impact?
Fuey started against Wakefield and it was probably only his third start of the year.
Sometimes players get told that they are bench players and they spend their whole lives as bench players because they start to believe it.
I think Fuey believed he was a bench player, though I didn’t regard him that way when I came here.
But in a couple of games he started he probably played like a bench player, but I think he has now got more belief in himself and because of that he is improving.
He has put in a lot of bodywork and he is in much better and fitter shape, and I think that showed in the game against Wakefield.
If he wants to be a starting player, then he can be a starting player and that is brilliant for our team.
