Andy Booth: Come on Everton!
May 29 2009 by Andy Booth, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
DAVID MOYES has done a fantastic job at Everton over the last few years and I’m hoping he can top it off with a trophy in tomorrow’s FA Cup final.
Opponents Chelsea will have their own ideas about (temporary manager) Guus Hiddink leaving with the silverware, but I’m hoping Moyes and his side can win the showpiece at Wembley.
When you think of how many players Everton have managed without this season because of injuries, they have done magnificently to finish fifth in the Premier League and reach the final of our world-famous domestic knockout.
Everton, really, have been carrying the challenge to the ‘big four’ for the past few years and I don’t think David Moyes has really received the credit he deserves for that.
Aston Villa have also emerged this season under Martin O’Neill to break away from the also-rans and join Everton in the pursuit of Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal.
But Everton have been up there consistently and that’s down to the manager.
For my money, Moyes would have to be the leading contender to replace Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United – should he ever decide to retire!
