THEY’RE both the wrong side of 30, but there’s plenty to come from Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane.
England ace Gerrard has just signed a new Liverpool contract while Keane, the Republic of Ireland star, has joined Aston Villa on loan from LA Galaxy for six weeks.
They are both brilliant players, with John Aldridge, no mean operator himself, labelling Gerrard Liverpool’s best-ever.
That’s an interesting debate, because while people say the likes of Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness were even greater, they were playing in an all-conquering side.
Even though he won the Champions League so memorably in 2005, Gerrard has never won the Premier League.
That makes his loyalty to Liverpool all the more impressive.
Like Jamie Carragher, Gerrard is a local lad who seems to have a special affinity with the Anfield club and supporters.
His new contract includes an eventual post as club ambassador, a title which sounds familiar.
