Sodje, who will find out in the next 24 hours (along with fellow trialist Steve Haslam) whether he has a McAlpine future, teed up an early shot for Adnan Ahmed which was rifled just over the bar, but Farsley continued to play well.
Slack marking at a corner allowed Rudi Coleano a free back-post header from which he should have scored, while Roy Stamer fired just over the bar and Dyson had a downward header cleared from near the line by Anthony Lloyd.
Lloyd, in fact, had a part in Town's goal, crossing for John McAliskey to flick the ball into the path of Sodje who, under pressure from a defender, managed to poke the ball into the corner.
Town looked much more solid in the second half with Joe Walsh catching the eye in midfield and Farsley - who have ex-Town man Michael Midwood on their books - were fortunate that Nat Brown, who also played well, couldn't make enough contact with a couple of headers.
Chris Brandon was also unlucky to see a cracking drive tipped over the top as Town stepped up a gear while McAliskey tried his luck from a tight angle with the clock ticking down.
