Blackpool 6, Huddersfield 3 (AET)

Efe Sodje

BLACKPOOL has never seen a roller-coaster like this!

Chances galore for both sides in 120 minutes of see-saw action and nine goals to record in Town's biggest ever defeat in the competition.

Three goals in the space of eight extra-time minutes from Keigan Parker (96 mins), substitute Jamie Burns (99) and Danny Coid (104) put Colin Hendry's side in the box seat after it finished 2-2 in normal time.

And their place in the next round was confirmed when Burns grabbed his second and Blackpool's sixth with 109 minutes on the clock, just four minutes after Adnan Ahmed had revived faint hopes for Town with a cracking first goal for the club.

It might well have been a different outcome had Peter Jackson's side not lost Efe Sodje for the second time this season to a needless elbowing offence just three minutes into the second half.

The red card came just moments after impressive John McCombe, with his first senior goal, had wiped out Phil Doughty's first-half header for the Trophy holders in front of a travelling contingent of around 700 fans.

Those fans could hardly believe it when, five minutes after the skipper headed down the tunnel to start a three-match ban, Danny Schofield scored a Tony Carss-style volley from 18 yards which keeper Sasa Ilic could only palm into the roof of the net.

Town's lead lasted only eight minutes thanks to a looping header from Matt Blinkhorn on 61 minutes, but Jackson's half-time team talk worked a treat this time and, after a dismal first-half show, he got some inspired play from his valiant 10.
