John McAliskey had two tremendous chances to settle it inside the 90 but aimed wide after doing all the hard work, while substitutes Pawel Abbott and Akpo Sodje both went close to winning it as their strong running proved a factor towards the end.
It still took a breathtaking last-minute save from Phil Senior to deny the lively Parker, however, to force the tie into extra-time as Blackpool, who hit the woodwork four times in all, rued the missed chances of a dominant first half which finished with Danny Schofield blasting over for Town when it was easier to score.
Encouraging for Jackson were the sound displays of McCombe (who was desperately close to a winner with a header against the woodwork three minutes from time) and Steve Yates at the back, some willing running from the substitute strikers and a solid contribution from Lee Fowler, before replacement Adnan Ahmed caught the eye with a smashing goal and a cracking 30-yard drive which Ilic did well to save.
And there's more to come, I'm sure.
