Chesterfield 2, Huddersfield Town 4
Aug 25 2005 By Mel Booth, The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Man of the Match:
Gary T-Fletcher - WENT home with the match ball and a whole new army of fans who will cheer him to the rafters at the Galpharm. Top finishing and superb workrate, deserves all the accolades
How they rated:
Paul Rachubka Smartly off his line on occasions, he got down well to smother a Hurst shot and wasn't troubled apart from the goals Rating: 7/10
Andy Holdsworth Went off with an ankle injury after nasty tackle by Allott. Raided forward well second half, helping create second Town goal Rating: 7/10
Danny Adams Played one crazy back pass which almost gave a goal to Allison, but otherwise solid again and took no prisoners Rating: 7/10
Martin McIntosh Limped off after only 17 minutes following another solid start. He was missed immensely until the Clarkes settled Rating: 6/10
Nathan Clarke Handed the captain's armband and did a lot of excellent clearing up. Helped brother Tom get through nervy moments Rating: 8/10
Michael Collins First start of season and made his presence felt. Moved to right-back when Holdsworth went off and did very well Rating: 7/10
Tony Carss Supplied the free-kick for Abbott's goal and took control of the match in the second half with some smart passes Rating: 7/10
Danny Schofield Very energetic display to lay on all three of the hat trick goals for Fletch. He worked hard throughout and close to top rating Rating: 8/10
Chris Brandon More influential against his old club and did some valuable tackling back as Chesterfield threatened on break Rating: 7/10
Gary T-Fletcher Grabbed a first career hat trick to put Town in the second round. All three strikes were real close-in poachers goals Rating: 9/10
Pawel Abbott Netted his fifth in five games to open the scoring with a terrific header. Also close with a curling first-half drive Rating: 7/10
Turning Point:
TOWN had twice given away the lead when, with only 15 minutes left, Gary Taylor-Fletcher rolled in his second goal of the night from a Danny Schofield cross to put them 3-2 ahead. Suddenly it seemed Town would not be denied after the tie had previously been in the balance, and Fletch made the point with a third strike
Spotlight on the Ref:
LANCASHIRE official Lee Mason was on the spot to give all his decisions and, generally, wasn't bad at all. He was possibly a bit lenient when only booking Allott for a high, late tackle on Holdsworth which resulted in him going off, but he allowed the game to flow in entertaining style and never let it get out of hand
Chesterfield: Muggleton; Picken, Blatherwick, Kovacs, Nicholson; Niven, Allott, Hall (Smith 78), Hurst, Allison (Tcham N'Toya 82), Larkin. Subs not used: O'Hare, Roche (Gkp), Davies.
