Huddersfield Town 3, Brentford 2

SIMPLY sensational! Thrilling finishes just don't get any better and the Town fans went berserk.

So did the players, who mobbed stoppage-time scorers Danny Schofield and Andy Booth before celebrating long and hard as the standing ovation which greeted the final whistle reverberated around the Galpharm.

Every last man was roared from the pitch as jubilant supporters acknowledged a monumental effort from Town to overcome Brentford's stormtrooper tactics and catapult themselves to joint top of the table.

Such scenes had seemed a world away only minutes earlier as a match packed with incident - Town's Tom Clarke and visiting full-back Andrew Frampton were sent off - had seemed destined to be won by Martin Allen's uncompromising assault unit.

A fantastic Pawel Abbott strike on 33 minutes had wiped out a goal of equal brilliance from Isaiah Rankin 11 minutes earlier, but Brentford held sway thanks to a stunning breakaway goal by substitute Dudley Campbell - his first touch of the match - just 24 seconds into the second half.

Town threw on substitutes Booth and Junior Mendes in a bold bid to force a second equaliser, but it seemed Peter Jackson's plan would be thwarted by a combination of quality play, blatant time-wasting and brute aggression until the fourth official held up his board to signal five minutes of added time.

A wave of renewed hope seemed to wash over the fans and Town, already building pressure in determined fashion, responded to the roar.
