Clarke's promotion from the defensive footplate was more than justified with some surging runs, determined tackling and positive approach play and he's given the manager a real headache now that skipper Jon Worthington has completed his two-match ban.
With the wind at their backs in the first half and Pawel Abbott looking hungry for work, Town made a bright start only to find themselves on the wrong end of another excellent Beagrie strike.
He had already hit the woodwork with a cross when, with 16 minutes gone, he jinked inside what passed for cover and curled a 20-yard drive across goal and low inside Rachubka's left-hand post.
It should have been the spark for a confident home display, but the Iron will evaporated when Rachubka saved superbly from Billy Sharp's break and Town came storming back.
Andy Holdsworth, raiding forward well, fired inches over the top following a Schofield link-up with Gary Taylor-Fletcher.
Then Abbott - with only one goal in three months - showed the agony of his drought when blazing over the best chance of the match created by Danny Adams and young Tom down the left, the latter providing a perfect drag-back to 12 yards.
It looked like Town would go empty handed for their efforts until a minute before the break when, from a great pass by Abbott, Schofield let fly from fully 20 yards and gave keeper Tom Evans no chance whatsoever.
At that stage, Town were going so well they didn't want the half to finish and, despite a Chris Brandon shot well held by Evans, it was Scunthorpe who seized the initiative in the second period.
An Ian Baraclough corner struck a post, Beagrie's follow-up was well blocked by Rachubka and then Cleveland Taylor fired across goal and wide from two excellent breaks.
