Campbell, taking the place of Owusu as the central striker, made another bright run to create an opening, but he still shot from well outside the box and clearly did not expect his bobbling effort to evade the dive of the distraught Senior, who laid motionless for several seconds in disbelief at what had happened.
That effectively ended the game and Town were, quite literally, left to lick their wounds and to contemplate the improvement needed to make a solid play-off run from here.
Man of the Match: Andy Holdsworth
With the midfield and attack having a poor day, his defending and passing showed up well. Came under pressure at times but generally did little wrong against a pacy Brentford side
Turning Point:
While he will be upset with a fumble which led to the opening Brentford goal, it was Paul Rachubka's red card in the third minute of the second half which upset Town's newly-laid 4-4-2 plans against a side already reduced to 10.
He was adjudged to have denied a goalscoring opportunity by foulding DJ Campbell on a quick break
How they rated:
Paul Rachubka Nightmare day for the keeper with a mistake for the first goal and then his sending-off for a one-match ban. Rating: 3/10
Andy Holdsworth Made three tremendous cover tackles as Town got stretched by pace and did his best to ignite some decent passing play Rating: 6/10
Danny Adams One crunching tackle on DJ Campbell caught the eye but he seemed reluctant to join the attack like usual Rating: 4/10
