Huddersfield Town 1, Barnsley 3
May 16 2006 By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Man of the Match: Danny Adams, very strong in the face of danger around Town's box, he also pushed forward well, particularly in the first half, and supplied some decent crosses from the left
How they rated?
Paul Rachubka Had a reasonable game in difficult conditions but will be disappointed not to have parried better before the deciding goal Rating: 6/10
Andy Holdsworth Did his best to inspire Town down the right, got forward well first half and made one great tackle on Nardiello second half Rating: 7/10
Danny Adams Very strong defensively with his tackling and covering and did enough to take the top mark from McIntosh Rating: 8/10
Martin McIntosh Another very solid effort at the back and he pushed up front in the closing stages to try and rescue the tie Rating: 7/10
Nathan Clarke Much better in the second half after some poor passing let him down in the first. Gave everything he had Rating: 6/10
Gary T-Fletcher Missed a glorious late chance on the volley but wasn't in the game as much second half as Barnsley took over Rating: 6/10
Jon Worthington Showed his never say die attitude when charging through to grab the goal. Not as dominant as first leg Rating: 6/10
Mark Hudson Put a couple of testing passes into the box but was forced to play second fiddle to McPhail and Howard in the centre Rating: 6/10
Danny Schofield Superb tracking back in the first half but it was his challenge which the referee felt was a penalty. Drifted out of it Rating: 6/10
Andy Booth Worked tirelessly to set things up as Town often went for the long punt in the second half. No real chances in the game Rating: 6/10
David Graham Provided some clever flicks first half in what was almost certainly his last appearance for the club. Done a decent job Rating: 6/10
Turning Point
The soft penalty award against Danny Schofield for his challenge on Paul Hayes as Brian Howard played the ball into the Town box. It came at a time when Peter Jackson's side had made a decent start to the second half and, when Hayes scored to level on aggregate, it gave Barnsley a massive lift for the rest of the tie
Spotlight on the Ref: St Helens official Chris Foy was a bit too fussy for a tie like this and wasn't helped by his assistants, who often seemed to be that vital yard behind play. Made his mind up about the penalty from quite a distance and yet plenty of pushes and shoves in the game went unpunished, much to the frustration of the likes of Andy Booth
