The left-hand wideman twice had low drives blocked in the 20th minute, watched Paul Smith smother his rising shot in the 24th, put one over after 58 then shot straight at the Forest goalkeeper after doing all the hard work to get into a good shooting position on the hour.
And Schofield's excellent work after picking up on Nathan Clarke's long throw in the 72nd minute should really have been rewarded with a second goal of the season, although Taylor-Fletcher won't complain after collecting his third (and the 50th of his career at senior level).
Adams, meanwhile, set a great example at the back, scarcely missing a tackle as Town kept a check on frontmen Holt and Jack Lester.
The one disappointment was the goal, stabbed in despite a last-ditch tackle by Andy Booth as Town failed to clear Sammy Clingan's set-piece ball in from the Forest right.
Other than Schofield's attempts, Town's best effort fell to Booth, whose downward back-post header from Beckett's right-wing cross was well held by Smith.
For Forest, Danny Cullip glanced an eighth-minute header just wide.
