Cheltenham Town 2, Huddersfield Town 1
Sep 11 2006 By The Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Turning Point:
THE turning point was the second Cheltenham goal by JJ Melligan, because at that stage Town had totally dominated the second half and looked capable of getting one point if not three.
But the miss by Mark Hudson, in stoppage time at the end from only a few yards out is the moment which will stick in the memory.
How They Rated:
Matt Glennon Didn't have much chance with either goal and pressured on a few kicks. Made superb save from Odejayi. Rating: 6/10
Tom Clarke Played right-back and had a decent game, especially when pushing forward in the second half as Town dominated. Rating: 7/10
Danny Adams Much more likes his old self when pressing down the left in the second half and made great tackle on Milligan. Rating: 6/10
David Mirfin Matched the pace and strength of Odejayi with two superb covering challenges first half. Looked good all game. Rating: 8/10
Nathan Clarke Let the ball bounce a couple of times which gave Odejayi the edge, but also made some very good clearances. Rating: 6/10
Gary T-Fletcher Had a good shooting chance well denied by Higgs early on. Went wide right second half and had some success. Rating: 6/10
Matt Young Grafted hard in Town's new diamond midfield formation in the first half but was the player taken off in the interval rejig. Rating: 6/10
Mark Hudson His anchor role didn't work out and he looked much more effective in the second half. But missed great chance. Rating: 6/10
Michael Collins Got to grips in the second half after the diamond midfield was scrapped and he played well in attacking third. Rating: 7/10
Andy Booth Tireless and a major threat with several headers at goal. Also teed up Hudson for his late golden opportunity. Rating: 8/10
Luke Beckett Had a snap-shot on the turn well saved and worked hard, but not a lot is going right for him just at the moment. Rating: 6/10
Spotlight on the Ref
KENT'S Phil Crossley had a very good game. He didn't make a booking, even though he twice warned players against diving, and he handled the contest extremely sensibly through being right on top of the action throughout.
Allowed the players to challenge strongly and, when there were two clashes of heads, he stepped in immediately.
Cheltenham: Higgs, Gill, Caines, Lowe, Armstrong, Melligan, McCann, Finnigan, Wilson (Victory, 54), Guinan (Elvins, 80), Odejayi. Subs not used: Brown (gkp), Wylde, Yao.
