Match report: Millwall 2 - 1 Town

One dilemma for the manager is whether to persevere with Dickinson as a lone central striker, or to maintain the two up front (first Keigan Parker with the loanee, then Phil Jevons) with which he finished at Millwall.

The 4-3-3 system certainly became less effective after Danny Cadamarteri limped off in the 20th minute, and Ternent will be hoping his hamstring strain heals quickly.

Cadamarteri had volleyed narrowly off target in the ninth minute as Millwall struggled to deal with Clarke’s long throw, and it was another jet-propelled delivery from the centre-back which led to the opener, Dickinson taking advantage of a half-hearted clearance to net his first Town goal with a neat overhead kick.

Millwall’s only early effort of note was a misdirected header by stalwart striker Harris from debutant Karl Moore’s cross, but as the on-loan Manchester City winger began to settle, the tempo of the home side’s play picked up.

Moore’s trickery forced a couple of corners, and it was from his 35th-minute cross that Clarke appeared to handle Jimmy Abdou’s header.
