Match report: Town 3 - 2 Northampton

Town were a touch unlucky to go behind, with Guttridge’s shot, which followed a neat turn, spinning beyond Glennon’s reach after hitting Goodwin as he attempted a block.

But they were fortunate that referee Colin Webster turned down a Northampton penalty appeal a minute later, because Butler did appear to make contact with Hawley.

There was another let-off in the 28th minute, when Colin Larkin’s cross-cum-shot came back off the face of the bar, and Town took full advantage by levelling.

Craney and Flynn were involved in a flowing move which Dickinson continued, arrowing his way into the penalty area before squaring the ball.

Larkin blocked Skarz’s shot, but the ball fell to Booth who netted left-footed for his 144th Town goal.

Flynn fired well wide from a great position in first-half stoppage time, but made up for it with a great right-foot finish from Dickinson’s low cross.

And there was plenty of power in the second strike, which Dunn appeared to have covered only for the ball to squirm out of his grasp and trickle in.

Leon Constantine lobbed onto the roof of the net in the 85th minute and while Town’s Parker twice went close after coming off the bench, it was Davis who scored to set nerves jangling.
