Match report: Hartlepool 5 - 3 Town

Pools were level for the third time, but there was worse to come for the 398 Town fans in a 3,771 crowd as, in the 86th minute, former Town loan striker Kevin Kyle climbed high to head home Matty Robson’s looping left-wing cross.

Then, with less than 60 seconds of normal time remaining and Stan Ternent’s side pressing frantically for an equaliser, Hartlepool counter-attacked after clearing a corner.

Porter broke free from his own half, rounded keeper Matt Glennon, and calmly rolled the ball home.

That meant there have been 42 goals scored in nine games at the North-East ground so far this season – and while there was an argument to say Town didn’t really deserve to be ahead at the break, defeat was cruel after they held Pools at bay for the bulk of the second period.
