Match report: Town 3 - 2 Crewe
Nov 3 2008 by Mel Booth, Huddersfield Daily Examiner
Encouraging approach play involving Parker – who was sent-off in stoppage time for a second yellow card – Roberts, the returning Andy Holdsworth and an in-form Jon Worthington made Crewe look extremely poor, particularly at the back, and promised the flood of goals which Town seem sure to one-day produce.
Unfortunately, after Butler’s persistence had been rewarded following a Liam Dickinson flick on 20 minutes – he forced the ball in despite the efforts of defender Danny O’Donnell and keeper Steve Collis on the line – and Ian Craney fired in a belter on 39 with the aid of his new boots, it was Crewe who turned the tables with the switch of Grant to play ‘in the hole.’ Suddenly Town seemed hesitant in midfield, allowing too much time and space, and in Byron Moore and Donaldson, Steve Holland’s side had the pace to exploit such tardiness.
There had been a warning on 35 minutes when Donaldson sent Moore racing clear, but he overran the ball with only Matt Glennon to beat and the keeper was able to smother on the ground.
